AUSTIN, Texas — Two survivors of last week’s deadly pileup on Interstate 35 in North Austin are speaking out through their attorney, shedding light on the devastating impacts of the crash that claimed five lives and injured 11 others.
According to their attorney at FVF Law Firm, Francisco Villalobos, 29, and Priscilla Davila, 25, were in Austin to celebrate Davila’s birthday when their lives were forever changed. The couple had traveled from Nolanville, a town near Temple, for the occasion – but instead of celebrating, Davila spent her 25th birthday in the ICU.
Severe injuries and ongoing recovery
Davila, a hairstylist, remains hospitalized at Dell Seton Medical Center with extensive injuries. She is dealing with complications including a brain bleed; fractures in her sternum, ribs and vertebrae; and internal organ damage. Doctors are performing multiple cognitive tests to assess her brain function.
According to their attorney, Villalobos, who works at a cardboard box factory, is recovering at his parents’ home in Temple after undergoing surgery for injuries including a fractured vertebrae, a brain bleed and damage to his liver and spleen.
