Former “Black Rain” Drug Crew Member Jerome Jones Sentenced to 30 Years for Role in 1990s Queens Homicides

Jerome Jones, known by the moniker “Sha,” a one-time high-ranking member of the Queens-based narcotic crew dubbed “Black Rain,” has been sentenced to 30 years behind bars. This comes following his involvement in a trio of cold case homicides, taking place during the early ’90s and intertwined with his drug trafficking activities. The announcement of the sentencing was made after Jones pleaded guilty in August of the previous year, affirming his complicity in these longstanding unresolved crimes, as per the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

United States District Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis handed down the sentence earlier in federal court in Brooklyn, closing chapters in a saga that spanned over three decades. According to a statement shared by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, Jones’ operations involved significant periods of violence and drug distribution. This chained sequence of actions led to the fatal fate of Oscar Flow, Robert Arroyo, and Dorothy Taylor, whose lives were claimed under the dark veil of Black Rain’s expanses.

John J. Durham, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, underscored the relentless pursuit of justice that besieged Jones. “Jones now faces decades in prison for his role in a violent drug organization and for several vicious killings committed within less than one year.
