GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — With the official start of spring right around the corner, moles are starting to make a mess of things in lawns and parks around West Michigan.
It’s that time of year. You take a look out at your yard to see it’s covered with holes, hills and tunnels. Riverside Park in Grand Rapids is no exception.
“They’re God’s creation,” said Rockford resident Rich Moll, who took a walk through Riverside Park with his wife Tuesday afternoon. “He put them here in this earth for some purpose, whether it was just to irritate us, another one of those little problems we have to deal with.”

As it gets warmer and the soil thaws from winter to spring, it’s the perfect time for moles to tunnel and search for food. Moll — whose last name is indeed pronounced “mole” — recently had enough of moles tearing up his own yard.
“They’re in and out during the night,” Moll said. “During the day, you pat down an area and then the next thing you know, he’s right behind you. They’re coming and pushing right up.”…
