Man charged with attempted murder after attacking coworker, then shooting her husband, police say

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Winston-Salem man has been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder following a workplace shooting at Republic Services earlier this week.

A workplace dispute at Republic Services turned violent Monday morning when one male employee attacked a female employee with a golf club. Police said the male employee then shot the woman’s husband, who came to her defense.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at the recycling center around 6:10 a.m. and found that an argument between two employees had escalated into violence. According to court documents, the suspect, 61-year-old Lamard Defre Crawford, assaulted 52-year-old Shannon Lynn Bicking with a golf club, striking her multiple times from behind without warning. When her husband, 53-year-old Ethan Temple Bicking, attempted to intervene, Crawford allegedly pulled out a 9mm firearm and shot him before fleeing the scene…
