Spring frost: Alabama temperatures to plummet this week

Don’t put those jackets or blankets away just yet − there’s a frosty forecast on the horizon in Alabama.

A cold front pushing through Wednesday, on the last official day of winter, will send temps plummeting as far south as the Gulf Coast. There are “medium to high chances,” of frost on Friday morning as far south as Troy and Eufaula, National Weather Service forecasts show.

There is a “low to medium” risk of freezing conditions Friday morning in north Alabama along and north of the Highway 278 corridor.

How cold will it get in Alabama this week?

Forecasts set a percentage chance of each of these Alabama cities hitting 36 degrees or lower:

  • Gadsden: 100%
  • Montgomery: 59%
  • Selma: 100%
  • Tuscaloosa: 89%

Gadsden has a 79 percent chance of hitting 32 degrees or lower Friday morning.
