Willie Sylvester, a 29-year-old New Orleans resident, has been handed a two-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to unlawful ammunition possession, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Following his incarceration, Sylvester is set for three years of supervised release and is obligated to pay a $100 special assessment fee.
Documents from the court show Sylvester was implicated in an April 2020 shooting investigation conducted by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, which also brought to light his social media activity involving weapons, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Despite previously having felon status due to convictions ranging from simple robbery to firearm possession, Sylvester was seen discussing firearms on social media and admitted to discharging a weapon during the 2020 incident—a claim evidenced by his own gunshot injury.
Federal regulations strictly prohibit felons from possessing firearms or ammunition—a principle Sylvester has infringed upon more than once. His prior convictions, including being a felon in possession of a firearm in 2014, demonstrate a recurring disregard for these laws.
