Her Last Walk: What Happened Along the River?

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – On the evening of December 12, 2012, a tragic event disrupted the serene trails along the White River in Indianapolis, Indiana, leaving investigators puzzled and the community in mourning.

According to the Indiana State Police, Sherese Walker Bingham, a 51-year-old resident of Indianapolis, was known for her nightly walks with her dogs, May Day and Tsunami, along the White River trails. On December 12, 2012, Sherese was found fatally shot while walking her two German Shepherds near the intersection of West New York and Limestone Streets. Her dogs would not allow emergency responders near her that fateful night. They encountered difficulties reaching her due to their protective behavior. So, how did someone get close enough to shoot her?

The initial investigation conducted by the Indiana State Police quickly ruled out suicide. The Marion County Coroner’s Office determined Sherese was alive for 7 minutes after the shooting and attempted to make a phone call before she succumbed to her injuries Indiana State Police report.
