13 injured in Brownsville NYCHA fire, cause under investigation

A fire tore through a NYCHA building in Brownsville last night, injuring 13 people, including residents who had to be rescued from the upper floors. According to the FDNY, the fire started around 7:07 p.m. at 268 Osborn St., inside the Brownsville Houses. Flames spread across the fourth and fifth floors of the six-story building, sending thick smoke into the hallways. Firefighters responded quickly, deploying multiple ladders to reach those in danger. The fire was brought under control by 8 p.m. Emergency officials confirmed that nine people were taken to local hospitals, while four others refused medical attention at the scene. Fortunately, all injuries were nonlife-threatening. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by FDNY Fire Marshals.
