Midwest Family Adventure: A Trip for the Ages
My family and I recently embarked on a Midwestern adventure, exploring Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. Having traveled extensively throughout the US, we can confidently say the Midwest has stolen our hearts.
Our journey was filled with breathtaking natural beauty. From watching salmon navigate the Fish Ladder Park in Michigan to hiking amidst the stunning landscapes of Cuyahoga Valley National Park and Kelleys Island in Ohio, we were captivated by the region’s diverse scenery. Hocking Hills State Park, with its dramatic gorges, cliffs, and waterfalls, was the undisputed highlight of our nature excursions.
Beyond nature, the Midwest offered a rich tapestry of historical and cultural experiences. We visited presidential homes, toured the birthplace of Motown music and the Wright brothers’ bicycle shop, and explored iconic institutions like Purdue, Notre Dame, and the University of Michigan. Thrills awaited us at Cedar Point amusement park and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, while the historic Ohio State Reformatory (made famous by the movie “Shawshank Redemption”) offered a glimpse into the past.
Our accommodations added another layer of enjoyment to our trip. The Kensington Hotel in Ann Arbor impressed us with its welcoming atmosphere, delicious dining, and a sprawling indoor pool that delighted our children.
In Cincinnati, the historic Lytle Park Hotel provided luxurious comfort and captivating views of the Ohio River. A unique stay awaited us at Indianapolis’ Crowne Plaza, housed within the world’s first Union train station, where we slept in renovated train cars.
Our Midwestern escapade left us wanting more. We’re already planning our return trip to further explore this captivating region.
