Drought in South Texas is approaching historic levels. Since the start of August 2024, San Antonio has recorded only 5.99 inches of rain, which is more than 13 inches of rainfall below average for the same period, historically. This rainfall total ranks as the third-lowest ever for this timeframe, surpassed only by the droughts of 1917-18 and 2005-06.
Exceptional drought — the worst level of dryness measured by the U.S. Drought Monitor — has expanded into San Antonio, Hondo, Bandera, Boerne, Kerrville and Fredericksburg, according to data released Thursday .
Dryness is expected to continue Friday and Saturday, but San Antonio will see rain chances a couple of times in the forecast over the coming week. Here’s when those chances will be highest.
