Wave of Tragedy: City Reels After Three Children Killed in One Week

Chicago, Illinois — A wave of tragedy has struck the city as three children were found dead in separate violent incidents over one week, prompting deep concern and renewed attention to child safety and gun violence in Chicago.

According to the Chicago Police Department, on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at approximately 4:50 p.m., the body of 16-year-old Kaylah Love was discovered near a playground in Horan Park, located at 3035 West Van Buren Street. Love had been brutally beaten. Details surrounding the circumstances of her death remain under investigation.

Less than 10 hours later, the Chicago Police reported that on Monday, March 17, at 2:10 a.m., 13-year-old Amari Williams was found dead in the backyard of an apartment building in the 1500 block of South Kildare Avenue. Chicago Police reported that Amari had been shot in the head. His mother had reported him missing shortly before the discovery of his body. No arrests have been announced in connection with the shooting.
