Climber dies after falling in Boulder Canyon climbing area

DENVER (KDVR) — A climber died in Boulder on Sunday after sustaining injuries in a fall in the 33700 block of Boulder Canyon Drive, which the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said was the Riviera climbing area.

Boulder County Regional Communication Center received a 911 text about the injured climber at about 3:15 p.m. and received further texts while deputies and emergency personnel were responding. The additional texts said that CPR had been started and the fallen person was unresponsive.

Police said the victim was a 41-year-old man from Golden who was climbing with his friends and family. He was found unresponsive after falling from about 20 feet, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said, and died from his injuries.

Rescue personnel brought the man down from the climbing area, and the Boulder County Coroner’s Office will be responsible for identifying him and notifying his next of kin…
