Remains found in 1986 identified, but homicide remains a mystery

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – After 39 years, authorities have identified a man killed in the Gilmer County area.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and FBI said the remains of David Clary were found in August of 1986. For years, they were not able to identify him — until now.

Agents partnered with the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council and Othram, Inc. for the use of genetic technology to identify him, the GBI said.

The GBI said Clary grew up in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area. At the time of his death, he apparently made frequent trips to metro Atlanta and north Georgia. His last known location was in Gwinnett County…
