Eugene man jailed after allegedly attacking woman in van

EUGENE, Ore. – A man is in jail on charges including assault after allegedly attacking a woman in her van who tried to use a machete to defend herself.

According to court records, at about 11 a.m. on March 21, multiple callers in the area of Lawrence Street near Fourth Avenue reported a man was hanging onto a van, punching the female driver as she tried to drive away. Police arrived shortly afterwards and arrested Rusty Dewayne Langston, 42, court records said.

According to court documents, police learned the driver was a woman in her 60s, and she did not know Langston, the alleged assailant. Court records suggest they got into a dispute over possession of the man’s dog. Once he began punching her, the woman told police she put the van in reverse, crashing it into other cars. Court records said she had a machete on her dash and began hitting the man with the sheathed weapon, but he got it away from her and hit her with the handle…
