U.S. Customs and Border Protection has seized more than three dozen hatching eggs in Louisville in recent weeks.
Between March 6 and March 20, officials seized 39 hatching eggs across three shipments. The first two shipments from Turkey were heading to New York and Nevada, while the latest shipment arrived from Romania and was going to Costa Rica, according to a press release.
“Our nation’s food supply is constantly at risk to diseases not known to occur in the United States,” Director of Field Operations at the Chicago Field Office LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke said in the release. “These interceptions highlight the vigilance and dedication our CBP Agriculture Specialists demonstrate, daily. They ensure the United States is safe from harmful diseases, which could affect our food supply.”…
