CHICAGO — A 32-year-old father has been jailed pending trial after prosecutors accused him of leaving a loaded firearm behind his television, within reach of his young son, who used it to shoot another child dead.
The charges against 32-year-old Derrick Taylor mark the second time in a month that Cook County prosecutors have pursued criminal charges against an adult for leaving a gun within reach of a child who used the weapon to kill another child.
Last Thursday evening, March 20, Taylor made snacks for his children, put the loaded 9-millimeter behind a TV on a low dresser in his bedroom, and took a nap, prosecutors said in a detention petition…
