Akron Firefighters Respond to Double Emergencies, Highlight Need for Adequate Resources Ahead of Budget Vote

The Akron Fire Fighters Association Local 330 was kept on its toes recently when two fires erupted within an hour, challenging the east side’s C shift companies and underscoring the community’s need for a well-equipped fire department. According to Akron Fire Fighters Association Local 330, a social media post from the union, the first blaze broke out just after 1 pm at Ellet High School’s detached weight room building. It was the swift and decisive actions of the initial crews on the scene that managed to contain the fire quickly and prevent extensive damage to the structure.

While operations were concluding at Ellet, a second call came in before 2 pm about a fire in an apartment building on Darrow Road with individuals reportedly trapped inside. Crews that were initially dispatched to Ellet High School had to divide their efforts, with additional units being called in to tackle the emergency on Darrow Road. In this instance, the crews’ rapid and definitive responses kept the damage localized to one apartment and allowed several residents to be rescued from adjacent apartments.
