Meijer is planning to open one of its small-format neighborhood market stores in Clarkston, Mich., on April 30, the company said. The 50,000-square-foot Independence Market would be smaller than the 90,000-square-foot Meijer Grocery stores that the company has been opening recently, although both are smaller than its traditional supercenters, which measure up to about 250,000 square feet.
The new store will feature a traditional grocery assortment, including fresh meat and deli, along with a café featuring coffee and Latin street food from Honcho Restaurant, a local independent operator in Clarkston. Additional departments include a bakery, a floral and gift shop, health and beauty care, and pet food and supplies.
