VERNON CO., Mo. — Law enforcement agencies in Missouri and Kansas are touting the coordinated efforts of officers in Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas after stopping an armed kidnapping.
Just after 10:30 this morning, Vernon County Sheriff Mike Buehler says his agency received notice that a man armed with a weapon and wearing body armor had just kidnapped a child from El Dorado Springs. The suspect was reportedly headed toward Nevada on Highway 54. Buehler says his agency sent multiple officers that direction, attempting to intercept the suspect. Deputies were able to find the suspect’s vehicle as the chase crossed over the state line into Kansas, ending in Fort Scott.
The suspect was taken into custody, and officials say no one was injured.
Sheriff Buehler says that “with the coordination of multiple agencies, the pursuit was able to end in a positive manner.”…
