‘The devil was in the walls’: Man shot wife, threatened 8-month-old baby before setting house on fire, cops say

The wife of a Minnesota man who allegedly shot her and set the family’s house on fire told police that her husband “believed the devil was in the walls.”

Lue Xiong, 31, was arrested by Minneapolis police on March 22 after police said he set fire to the home he shared with his wife and their six children. Police also said in a probable cause statement that he allegedly shot his wife, who suffered a nonfatal injury to her leg, and threatened to shoot the couple’s 8-month-old baby. When questioned by police, she told them her husband had been taking “illegal narcotics” and “believed the devil was in the walls.”

The probable cause statement said that the wife, who was not named, told police that Xiong “was talking to walls, believed the devil was in the walls, tearing walls apart, was not sleeping” and had allegedly been using drugs “before and after the shooting incident.” She also told police that her husband had exhibited this kind of behavior in the past and had fired his gun at the walls.

The statement says that on the morning of the fire, Xiong accused his wife of cheating on him and didn’t believe her when she denied the accusation. According to the statement, this argument took place while he was holding an AK-47 assault rifle. Xiong allegedly threatened to shoot his wife if she didn’t tell him the truth, then shot her in the leg and refused to let her call for help.
