A felony case unfolded on a Tuesday in Nashville when Isaiah Newsom, a convicted felon known for prior aggravated robbery and theft, was arrested after a dangerous encounter with law enforcement. The incident was sparked by Newsom brandishing an AR-15-style rifle at an undercover detective, according to a Nashville.gov report.
While investigating tips from Crime Stoppers, detectives observed three men, including Newsom, who carried a Windham Weaponry .556 caliber rifle, exiting from an apartment complex at 740 Nashboro Boulevard. The tension rose when Newsom, aged 25, pointed the rifle at an undercover detective’s vehicle. The detective inside stayed calm, instantly relaying the threat to nearby officers who quickly intervened. Officers announced their presence and turned on their emergency equipment, prompting the trio to run. Found after Newsom’s flight, the stolen rifle was retrieved with the support of the Canine Unit and a helicopter.
Newsom’s apprehension occurred at a nearby apartment complex, leading to charges including aggravated assault against a first responder, felon in possession of a weapon, theft of a firearm, and evading arrest. “During an interview, Newsom admitted to pointing the rifle at the detective,” the Nashville Police revealed.
