CHICAGO — While Chicago police leaders work to bulk up a citywide unit dedicated to handling the ongoing problem of street “takeovers,” there are indications that those efforts can’t begin soon enough. Spectators and stunt drivers blocked intersections across the North Side overnight, including a couple in Lakeview, setting off fireworks, clogging traffic, and squealing tires as drivers spun donuts.
At the three-way intersection of Diversey, Clark, and Broadway, a driver whirled around in circles while a crowd blocked off the streets around 1:45 a.m.
