According to USA Today, rumors recently surfaced claiming that Chipotle would have to file for bankruptcy and would be closing its restaurants this year. You couldn’t scroll through social media last week without seeing someone talking about the closing of Chipotle after reports suggested that Chipotle’s shares could be in trouble. The nerve-racking question was asked: Will Chipotle be closing?

There were numerous posts claiming that Chipotle was closing all restaurants and declaring bankruptcy. Of course, once it hit the internet, many believed it to be true.

However, Erin Wolford, a spokesperson for Chipotle, stated that this was false information stemming from a misleading online article that confused Chipotle with a separate venture it tested in 2023. Wolford clarified that Chipotle will not be closing its restaurants and plans to expand, contrary to what the rumors suggested.

Wolford mentioned, “We anticipate opening between 315 to 345 new restaurants this year, with at least 80% of them featuring a digital drive-through, which is what we’ll be calling it.”Even though Wolford made a statement declaring that the rumor is untrue, Texans are still uneasy about the situation. Only time will tell whether there will be an expansion or an expiration. Either way, Texans will be able to put the rumors to rest.
