A Wilmington corner known for ice cream will soon welcome a new business

With building renovations underway, a new business is expected to open at a former ice cream shop in Wilmington.

The former Dairy Queen at 1517 Dawson St. recently received a fresh coat of paint after sitting idle for over two years. The business temporarily closed for more than 20 months after sustaining damages from Hurricane Florence. Dairy Queen resumed operations in April 2020 before permanently closing and putting the building on the market in spring 2023.

What’s coming to Dawson?

The vacant building is being upfitted to be turned into a convenience store, Jeff Hovis, a broker with Intracoastal Realty said. The new occupants will be leasing from the buyer of the property and details of who will open up shop on the corner of 16 th and Dawson streets are yet to be released…
