DENVER ( KDVR ) — Police warned drivers to slow down Tuesday after multiple drivers were caught traveling at over 100 mph on Interstate 25.
The Thornton Police Department said its Traffic Enforcement Officers have clocked multiple drivers exceeding 100 mph on the interstate recently. The drivers received citations requiring them to appear in court.

Early in March, the department posted about one driver who was caught traveling at 133 mph on I-25 , where the speed limit is 75 mph. On Tuesday, the department shared that another driver was caught driving at 111 mph .
The police department warns that driving at excessive speeds is not only dangerous and illegal but can come with hefty fines and consequences, such as:
- Fines up to $2,650 per charge
- Loss of driver’s license
- Up to 364 days in jail per charge
- Dozens of hours of community service and driver re-education classes
- Driver behavior subject to court supervision for one year—meaning additional fines if another traffic conviction occurs within that time
Additionally, driving at excessive speeds can result in increased insurance costs.

Driving at high speeds was the number one reason behind crashes resulting in injury or death in 2023 , according to the Colorado State Patrol.
