City of Erie announces $4 million investment in local parks

The City of Erie has 48 parks and for the first time since 1994, a comprehensive parks and recreation plan is underway.

According to Mayor Joe Schember, $4 million in ARP funding has been set aside for the improvement and expansion of the city’s outdoor spaces.

A two-day workshop for the 20-year plan kicked off Thursday. City staff and a study committee are sharing their ideas with the consulting company hired to do the design work.

City Planning Director Jackie Spry said an overarching goal is for every city resident to be within a 10-minute walk from a well-maintained park.
