Construction worker airlifted to hospital after being run over by cement mixer

A Plant City man was arrested after a quick U-turn knocked a man off the back of a cement mixer that then ran him over.

An officer responded to a vehicle crash with injuries at Blissful Street and Wellness Way around 4 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Clermont Police Department. Upon arrival, he met with other officers and the driver of an involved vehicle, later identified as 32-year-old Nelson Sarmiento Funez.

The officer asked Sarmiento Funez to explain what happened regarding the crash. He advised that he was coming down the road from the location where they made contact in a gold Ford F250 towing a cement mixer. A coworker was sitting on the tailgate of the truck and fell when the cement mixer came off the truck, the report said.

Officers on scene were able to speak to a witness who stated she observed the truck pulling a small concrete mixer. It spun around to make a U-turn at the intersection of Blissful Street and Wellness Way. It appeared to be turning back into the neighborhood it just came out of, the report said…
