MDE names JPS principal Congressional District 2 Administrator of the Year

JANS – Callaway High School Principal Dr. Shemeka McClung has been named the 2025 Congressional District 2 Administrator of the Year by the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE). This recognition also makes her one of four finalists for the Mississippi Administrator of the Year award.

The Mississippi Administrator of the Year program recognizes outstanding school administrators across the state and highlights leadership that positively impacts student success. Eligible candidates include elementary and secondary school principals as well as vocational-technical directors.

Dr. McClung has spent her career supporting student achievement and school improvement. She previously worked at Pearson Virtual Schools and Jackson State University (JSU) in leadership roles focused on academic growth, institutional research, and strategic planning. In the district, she has served as District Director for Student Support, Principal and Assistant Principal of Lanier High School, and a classroom teacher at Callaway, Lanier, and Wingfield high schools.
