LINCOLN–(KFOR Apr. 4)–There have been an uptick in frauds involving people in Lincoln trying to buy something on Facebook Marketplace.
Lincoln Police say there have been 10 to 15 reports in the last two weeks. What happens is the victim will communicate with who they believe is the seller through Messenger about buying an item for sale. The seller will request half payment down to hold the item and will want money sent through a payment app, then the ad is taken down a short time later.
Police say be cautious with anyone you’re interacting with online, especially if you don’t know them. LPD advises you to not paying a down payment for an item being sold through Marketplace, so you can verify if the post is legitimate…
