Murder suspect beat victim with shovel and clothes iron, police say

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – A man arrested on suspicion of murdering another man in the Bywater last week is accused of beating him to death with a clothes iron and shovel.

Trevor Delrie, 18, was extradited from custody in Alexandria this week and booked into the Orleans Justice Center on a count of second-degree murder.

Delrie stands accused of beating 61-year-old Michael Craig Hankins to death at his home in the 4200 block of Royal Street.

According to court records, Delrie had sometimes lived with Hankins and traveled to New Orleans on March 22 upon his release from a mental hospital in Alexandria…
