ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – For more than two decades, the University of New Mexico Police Department has used a dorm for their headquarters and offices- but soon, that will change. “It was never really designed to be or function as a police department,” said Jeff McDonald, Security Operations Director for UNM. “It was a dorm building.”

Starting next week, UNM police will begin to see construction on their brand-new headquarters located at University and Mesa Vista Rd. “The new building will allow us to expand a little bit as the department needs grow,” McDonald said.
McDonald explained that this will create a dedicated place for his officers, instead of working in a building meant for student housing.
