Greensboro Man Charged with Insurance Fraud Over False Food Spoilage Claim

A Greensboro resident finds himself in a legal bind, facing allegations of insurance fraud, a felony charge that carries weighty implications if proven true. According to North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey’s announcement, Laquain James Robinson, 33, has been accused of falsely reporting $600 in food spoilage due to a power loss at his insured property to State Farm Fire and Casualty Co., as reported by the N.C. Department of Insurance.

The incident, which Robinson alleged occurred on July 13, 2024, has now culminated in charges of insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense. Walking into a trap of his own making, these charges were delivered through a criminal summons served to Robinson on March 31 by the Greensboro police.
