North Buncombe High School Presents “Curtains: The Musical”

Weaverville – It’s officially springtime, and the birds are not the only ones singing! North Buncombe High School has a long tradition of presenting musicals and plays for the community, and this year they are preparing to showcase the musical comedy whodunit, Curtains. The composer and lyricist for the music in Curtains are John Kander and Fred Ebb, the legendary songwriting team who also created the music for Chicago and Cabaret.

Set in 1959, the story unfolds at Boston’s Colonial Theatre during the opening night performance of a new musical, “Robbin’ Hood.” When the leading lady mysteriously dies during the curtain call, the entire cast and crew become suspects. Enter local detective Frank Cioffi, a musical theater fan, who is determined to save the show, solve the case, and perhaps even find love before the show reopens. Packed with jazzy tunes, witty lines, and delightful characters, Curtains promises a hilarious journey for both performers and the audience.

“It’s going to be a really fun show; I think it’s got a little something for everybody,” said Benjamin Moody, a junior at North Buncombe who plays Lieutenant Frank Cioffi. “It’s got some murder mystery elements if you’re into problem-solving or, if you like a good laugh, there are loads of comedic elements. And if you would just like to see a good presentation, there are several big numbers with lots of people moving at the same time.” Andy Bowman, a senior who plays Aaron Fox, remarked, “Coming to the show is a great chance to see a lot of the hard work that we’ve done over this past year, despite many challenges with Hurricane Helene and various other issues that have impacted our lives. We still came together and worked hard to put on something that we all care about.”…
