As the Miami Grand Prix gears up to put the city in the international spotlight, the Department of Transportation and Public Works’ Passenger Transportation Regulatory Division has announced a measure to accommodate the inevitable surge in luxury transport demand. Starting April 24, new temporary for-hire licenses will be issued to a select group of transportation operators. These licenses are set to be valid from April 25 through May 9, encompassing the duration of the high-profile racing event, according to Miami-Dade Government.
The temporary licensing is not just thrown open to any vendor with a set of wheels and a dream; it is restricted to operators currently licensed by a state or by a political subdivision of that state to engage in the limousine or for-hire van service business. Plus, existing Miami-Dade license holders can breathe easy with the option to expand their fleets, tailored specifically for this premiere event. Applications will be accepted Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., delivering a chance at immediate decal issuance for those that meet all requirements on the spot. It’s a tight race against time to secure these temporary passes, with Miami-Dade County already setting the stakes high under Chapter 31, Article VI of the County Code.
