CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — As a result of the heavy rain on Friday into Saturday, a number of Central Illinois streets and bridges are closed and under water from flooding.
At 11:30 p.m. on Friday, it was reported that Route 45 was closed in Tolono under the Railroad Viaduct. Due to a power outage, the pumps that keep the bridge dry were reported as offline and there was three feet of water under the bridge according to first responders.
Neoga School District provides updates on recovery efforts, future
As of 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, the Neoga Fire Protection District posted that the Ballinger Hill Bridge, just west of Trowbridge, is under water. Additionally, at 5:45 a.m., the bridge south of Trowbridge was also reported as flooded.
At 10:52 a.m., the Shelby County EMA reported that part of 300 N Road, east of Stewardson, is flooded. They are asking drivers to avoid this area, as it is a perfect example of dangerous waters. They’re also asking others to respond to their Facebook post with information on other flooded roadways.
Also Friday night, the Salem EMA reported a major disaster in Salem as cars were floating down W Main St. and that all of the town had flooded as basements started to fill with water. They also reported that many water rescues were occurring Frida night in town and that a trailer park was also under mandatory evacuation.

There has also been flooding reported at Lake Mattoon, in Effingham, Cowden and in the Hidalgo area of Jasper County…
