The problem with vouchers

I read Beacon Journal guest columnist Aaron Churchill’s article published March 22. While Mr. Churchill has a compelling opinion about tax dollars following the student, he may have left out a few items in his argument.

1) The Ohio Department of Education’s page for chartered private schools clearly states: “These schools are not supported by local or state tax dollars and require the family to pay tuition. Chartered Nonpublic schools are eligible for the Administrative Cost Reimbursement Program, Auxiliary Services Program and Transportation services for students.”

Since these schools are not allowed to receive public tax dollars according to the ODE, why should the money follow the students? Gov. DeWine’s push for vouchers to private schools is not authorized by the ODE!…
