New Orleans police officer acquitted of rape after weeklong trial

A jury acquitted a New Orleans police officer of rape after a weeklong trial in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court.

Gerry Paul, a seven-year veteran of the New Orleans Police Department, had been charged with second-degree rape following an incident on May 15, 2021, at his apartment in Mid-City.

A woman who had worked at the police department with Paul testified last week that she willingly went into Paul’s bedroom, where a sexual experience turned nonconsensual when she asked him to stop repeatedly and he refused. “I didn’t mind it, until it got rough,” she testified…
