Train derails on city’s southeast side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A train derailed on the city’s southeast side Sunday.

At 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) firefighters were dispatched to the intersection of Southeastern Avenue and Earhart Street on a report of a train fire. While firefighters were on the way to the scene, the train fire report was changed to chemical spill with a possible bridge collapse. IFD later confirmed that the bridge did not collapse

At 6:32 p.m. Sunday, firefighters arrived on the scene. According to investigators, six train cars were derailed with no train fire. At 6:38 p.m. Sunday, IFD confirmed there was not a hazardous spill. The white power that spilled from the train was corn starch. Two of the six train cars contained corn starch. Four of the train cars were empty…
