A traffic ticket set off a series of events leading to a standoff last month in The Villages.

The woman who barricaded herself in the Escandido Villas on March 26 continues to be held without bond at the Lake County Jail.

Marjorie Martinka, 53, was driving a white 2025 Ram truck on the night of Jan. 25 at Tarrson Boulevard and Shay Boulevard on the Historic Side of The Villages when she was arrested for driving while license suspended. She was issued a criminal citation and was not jailed at the time. Martinka, already on probation after a drug arrest last year, skipped a court date in February. Her absence set off a notification to her probation officer and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy went to the villa on Azteca Loop, near the Savannah Center, to take Martinka into custody on the warrant. When she spotted the deputy approaching, Martinka locked herself in the rear patio area of the courtyard villa. The SWAT teamed arrived and she eventually surrendered…
