WATCH: Leatherback sea turtle gets VIP escort from Florida law enforcement

JUPITER, Fla. (CBS12) — Usually, law enforcement marine units deal with enforcing boating laws, but the other day, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) provided an exclusive escort to one of Florida’s favorite animals.

The sheriff’s office said its Marine Unit, alongside the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), successfully completed an impromptu escort mission for a very large leatherback turtle.

Marine Deputy Buddy Sprott worked alongside an FWC officer to guide the turtle away from the bustling boat traffic in the Jupiter Intracoastal Waterway…
