CDOT, Lakewood coordinate efforts to get homeless encampment cleaned up

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (KDVR) — The state and the city of Lakewood are sharing updates about coordinated efforts to clean up a growing homeless encampment near the 6th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard interchange.

The mounting trash, fires being started near trees and contamination are all a big concern for neighbors.

Bob Emulengracht showed FOX31 a gate he has blocking access to his home from a nearby creek after an encampment started causing concerns.

“Even though I own the property, I’ve actually put a lock on that gate so nobody can come on my property,” said Emulengracht.

He worries about contamination in a waterway that feeds into the Platte River, the accumulating trash, fires being started and accidents that can happen near the busy interchange…
