HONOLULU, HI (CNN Newsource) – A group of 50 hikers is safe after being stranded overnight on Hawaii’s treacherous yet breathtaking Kalalau Trail along the Na Pali Coast of Kauai. The unexpected ordeal began Thursday when sudden, heavy rains transformed scenic terrain into a hazardous environment.Megan Wong, a Kauai resident who later helped provide supplies, said the weather turned rapidly. “It was like a sheet of rain coming out of nowhere,” she recalled. Later that evening, while passing the trailhead’s parking lot, she learned dozens of hikers were trapped about two miles into the trail, blocked by a suddenly swollen river.One hiker narrowly avoided disaster when he stepped into the water, saw it turn brown, and spotted a wall of water coming downstream—prompting the group to retreat.Joel Guy of the Hanalei Initiative, which provides shuttle services to the trail, explained how one hiker used the iPhone’s satellite SOS feature to alert the outside world, even without cell…..
