Driver facing charges in deadly crash with taxi was out on bond for street racing

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The suspected driver involved in a fiery, high-speed crash that killed two taxi cab passengers in Nashville last week was out on bail at the time on charges of evading police in a stolen car in early March.

On March 2, patrol officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department sent their helicopter surveillance crew, known as “Air One,” to a group of vehicles driving recklessly in the Madison/East Nashville area. The vehicles scattered, so Air One began tracking a black Dodge Challenger that was seen performing donuts and burnouts around vehicles, according to the arrest affidavit.

The Challenger was tracked going down Dickerson Pike, and patrol officers attempted to make a traffic stop near the Ewing Drive intersection. The affidavit states that the Challenger blew past the MNPD vehicle and into oncoming traffic at around 100 mph…
