There are many success stories in Utah of great business ideas that have grown into franchises in multiple locations. The beehive state was ranked number one for starting a business and the story behind the new J.Dawgs location in St. George is an example of why.

A Simple Menu with Great Dogs and Amazing Fries

J.Dawgs opened a location in St. George off River Road and it has been packed since then. It features a simple menu where you can choose a beef or polish dog with a whole list of condiments from sauerkraut to pickles. And don’t forget the special sauce.

What stood out to me was the bun that is baked fresh and it really made it for me. That isn’t to say the fries were any less. They have extra spice on them and were crunchy and a little different from the usual in a good way.

How Did JDawgs Get Started?

I talked to the owner, Jason Edwards about how he came up with J.Dawgs and how it has grown since then.

“20 some years ago, I got home from my church indentured service in Toronto where they had street carts on every corner,” said Edwards. He was attending BYU in Provo when he noticed a little 10 x 10 shack on the south side of the campus.

A good idea doesn’t get going without some sacrifice. “I got this idea to start a hot dog shack,” he said. “Dropped out of school. Pawned my fender telecaster for $600 bucks and with that I started the first J.Dawgs.”…
