2025 starts strong for development in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – The City of Sioux Falls ended 2024 by surpassing over a billion dollars in construction valuations for the fourth year in a row. And even though we’re only one quarter into 2025, it looks as though the City might continue that trend.

“Last year we were at about $160 million after the first quarter and we’re ending this quarter at $229 million so that’s quite a significant bump from last year,” Chief Building Official Neil King said.

King says the big growth is coming from the commercial side with high-dollar projects like CJ Foods and Silencer Central . There’s also the big addition at the Avera Campus that’s coming in at over $31 million.

“Kind of an odd thing for this quarter is commercial additions and remodels are, those have taken a significant jump in the past,” King said. “They’re actually leading and usually they’re behind the new commercial and new construction but they’re actually leading in the quarter one, so that’s kind of an anomaly there.”…
