NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – The city has issued hundreds of daily summonses to New Yorkers who aren’t complying with new composting rules , according to the Department of Sanitation.
The new rules went into effect in October, requiring New Yorkers to separate food scraps and yard waste from trash. The city started enforcing the rules on April 1 .

In the first week, the city recorded hundreds of violations per day, which come with fines ranging from $25 to $300 for multiple offenses.
