It might not feel like it just yet, but summer is only two months away. New York State is giving some residents a free air conditioner to help them stay cool. While there may still be the potential for snow (yes, in April), the hot summer months will be here before you know it. If you meet the requirements, you can apply now to get a head start on your plan to stay cool this summer.
The New York State Home Energy Assistance Program is offering free air conditioners to New Yorkers who meet income and other criteria through its Cooling Assistance Benefit. The program benefits are available through the end of August. In addition getting a free cooling unit, the benefit will also pay for it to be installed.
