Florida Longtime Luxury Hotel to Close Permanently, Laying Off 430 Workers Amid $1 Billion Upgrade

After 24 years as a Brickell Key icon, the Mandarin Oriental, Miami hotel will permanently shut its doors on May 31, paving the way for a $1 billion, two-tower residential project spearheaded by Hong Kong-based developer Swire Properties.

Major Layoffs & WARN Notice

In a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) letter, the hotel informed state and local officials of the impending closure, which will result in 430 employees losing their jobs. The first layoffs will occur alongside the closure date, with separations potentially continuing until Sept. 30.
