Child rescued from pond in Altoona

ALTOONA, Iowa — A child was rescued from a pond in Altoona on Tuesday.

Victim in downtown Des Moines federal courthouse shooting has died

At around 3:19 p.m. the Altoona Police Department was called to a pond just behind the Hy-Vee at 108 8th Street SW for a report of a missing child, police said. After roughly 45 minutes to an hour the missing call was called off.

According to the City of Altoona, items believed to have belonged to the child were found along the shore of the pond, prompting a search of the pond.

Altoona police said the child was eventually discovered and a water rescue began. The child was transported to a hospital. The child’s condition is unknown at this time…
