Man in custody after reaching over 100 mph in police chase across 2 counties

KENT COUNTY, Mich. — One man is in custody following a high-speed chase Monday that took police across two counties at speeds exceeding 100 mph, according to the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office (ICSO).

The chase began in Ionia County on April 7 when an ICSO deputy attempted to pull over a driver. That driver was later identified as Nicholas Michael Avillion IV.

Authorities said Avillion refused to stop his vehicle and took off west on I-96, heading towards Kent County at speeds over 100 mph. Kent County Sheriff’s deputies assisted ICSO by deploying spike strips and popping the tires of Avillion’s vehicle…
